So…there is an international OUTCRY to the casual racism in Big Brother. Jade is a figure of hate and is living in a safe house away from her children due to death threats.
Whatever you think about the ‘events in the house’ (and everybody HAD to have an opinion) another hate crime of equal, or more enormous consequence has slid under the radar.
Dirk ‘I’m a twat’ Benidict has been making comments that, if they were about race, would cause a bigger outcry but it’s about the girls, so that’s alright then…
“If this was a house full of men we would all get along, none of this would be happening”
“I have voted for two women so either way we’ll get the number of girls down in this house”
“…hormones….”
I wonder what that sounds like with a racial tone?
“If this was a house full of white people we would all get along…”
“I’ve voted for the two black people …to get the number of black people down in this house”
“You know what their like…black people and their hormones…”
Hmmm….sounds a bit more like an international debate now doesn’t it?
Why is it perfectly acceptable to hate women?
Why does everyone still love Dirk ‘I’m a twat’? Because he was in the A-team? That’s a crap reason.

THANK you Erika! I often feel like I can't really say that sexism should be given the same attention as other 'isms' and 'phobias' because then it's like i'm racist or something (well, yunno, I was liked to the BNP on my blog once!) but why the hell shouldn't it be given that attention? Even if nothing had happened between Jade and Shilpa, Dirks comments would have got the same amount of 'neh' because it's just a 'joke', like 'women drivers' and that sort of thing.
I'm really glad you posted about this. Thanks again.
This also reminded me of how a lot of people did cast the thing with Shilpa and Jade. I can't count the number of times that people said it was just because that's "how women are" (catty, bitchy, spiteful), perfectly normal female behaviour, and therefore not racist at all.
I'm not sure which part of those "arguments" annoyed me more! The denial of racism, or the overt sexism. Grrr.
thanks for the comments. I also am amazed that the term 'racism' was used when it was clearly xenophobia. Big debate...won't get into it...too cross...grr!
I guess what it is, is that I don't see such a clear distinction between "racism" and "xenophobia"... Ho hum.
(What I said though, still stands if we substitute "xenophibic" for "racist".)
But, yes, people are very quick to cry racism, and very slooooow to even notice - let alone care about - sexism. Humph.
misogyny beyond believe. he was full of it. i especially hated the "get her and her middle aged cleavage away from me" when talking about cleo. the man's an absolute misoygynist but then he was impotent at 29 and he now lives alone so hey, he's gonna have a chip on his shoulder when it comes to women!!!
as i've stated on other blogs idiot blair was in the commons when all this came to light shouting out about how "we oppose racism in ALL it's forms ... !" (more like fuel it!) and i was just left wondering when we might hear the words "we oppose sexism in ALL it's forms" - but of course that's wishful thinking.
